The 2025 summer is almost gone... But there's some MagicX in the air! This year's last device to be released in August is the Magicx XU20 V32. Check out this Android 10 device here and see how it compares with some compelling alternatives, specifically, the Anbernic RG-35XX pro (which you'll probably be better off with anyways... but we're admittedly biased towards Anbernic, so take this with a grain of salt).
The specs don't lie (or do they?), so go check them out and enjoy the rest of your summer gaming!

Anbernic did us a solid one by starting the August handheld releases with its new metal shell harnessed rg-477m.
It's an Android 12 device, but it also supports GarlicOS for those who, like us here at handheldsarena, prefer the raw Linux experience ;)
Inside, you'll find a beastie MediaTek Dimensity 8300 chipset with the very capable Mali G615 MC6 GPU. It has an excellent 4:3 LTPS screen, which has been receiving accolades from nearly all the reviewers who have already gotten the device. With a build quality that would already be excellent in plastic, its aluminium metal shell makes this your one handheld to have right now, especially in this form factor, making it very hard to point out any flaws or dubious compromises.
And dare we add, it even has the d-pad cross in the correct format AND position :D
Check out how it compares to Anbernic's previous metal model and its fierce competition!

Check this out: there's a new handheld from MagicX, and this one is a bit in the weird class, but nevertheless very interesting: the MagicX Zero 40!
Imagine a 2DS, but with a continuous screen... Well, it's more like a single vertical screen! That's it!
Running Android or Linux as an alternative, this device is capable of emulating the original DS games, but, unfortunately, not the 3DS. Maybe on a second iteration or a successor device? Given that this is kind of a unique handheld, we feel that this was a missed opportunity for a 3DS-capable machine... But hey, we're all about having a choice here, and this is a relatively cheap device, especially for how unique it is!
Anyway, if you're into playing emulated DS games and also like vertical shooters, well, this is the device you should get... Or maybe you should also consider buying a 2DS?
Compare and decide here!

The moment we've all been waiting for is finally here! The Nintendo Switch 2 has been officially released. With its custom Ampere GPU, the Switch 2 is a significant leap in terms of graphics performance compared to its predecessor. However, with underwhelming battery life and a game library that is still embryonic, the Switch 2 is also kind of a "mixed bag"... As are most consoles at launch.
Youtubers are already disassembling it and analyzing its performance and features, and we at Handheldsarena have combed through all the Switch models' specs and features to bring you the most comprehensive and easy-glance of the new console features, especially when compared to the rest of the Nintendo Switch family.
Have a look at this comparison, decide if this is the console for you, and, of course, happy gaming!

The tides have indeed been flippin' lately with the Powkiddy V90S, a device that has recently entered its preorder phase and is already making waves in the handheld gaming scene.
A successor to the popular Powkiddy V90 from 5 years ago (that's 5 centuries if measured in Pandemic Mean Time), the V90S is a compact clamshell handheld that boasts a 3.5-inch 4:3 IPS display, tied to an Allwinner a133 plus and a PowerVR GE8300 for that graphical 3d rotating and shaded cherry on top.
The competition is fierce, with the likes of both the Anbernics rg-34xx-sp and rg-35xx-sp. No one ever said this would be an easy win for Powkiddy, but the V90S is certainly making a strong case for itself: sometimes less is more!
Alright, it's May 2025, and we already have a new handheld! This time is the somewhat unique Ayaneo 3: a modular horizontal handheld where the discussion about the correct position for the thumbsticks and the D-Pad doesn't even apply. Each user can reconfigure the handheld controls thanks to modules that can be swapped around. What a (detachable) twist!
The Ayaneo 3 comes in a bunch of variations, specifically, one with the modern AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX370 and another with the older AMD Ryzen 7 7840U. Even the screen comes in two flavors: OLED or IPS.
All configurations come with 12GB of RAM and Windows 11, because this is one of those big boys that can run AAA games.
Anyway, take a look at all the specs and check out how the device looks here. Also, here's a comparison with the MSI Claw 7, the Ayaneo Pocket Evo, and the obvious reference portable pc gaming device: the Steam Deck OLED.
There's a certain charm to the original white GameBoy from Nintendo that is present in handheld devices to this day. The Retroid Pocket Classic is a tribute to that nostalgia, with its classic retro design, with even a choice of a 6 or 4-button layout to top its excellent set of features, excelling on an AMOLED screen, modern SoC, and Android 14 based OS.
Retroid has been at it lately with new devices, and the Pocket Classic is a great addition to their lineup; in fact, it's the second addition to their vertical handheld lineup. A lineup preceded by the now 5-year-old Retroid Pocket (see how both devices compare here).
The Pocket Classic has a great price point considering its premium features and the reviews available point to a solid emulation performance. Checkout this comparison with the most compelling vertical handheld alternatives to the Retroid Pocket Classic.
Will the Easter Gaming Bunny bring us more devices this month? If he does (or maybe it's a she? Pronouns are hard!) we'll be here to tell you about them :)

Then the Retroid Pocket Flip 2 is for you!
It's a much improved version of the previous Pocket Flip, which you can compare with here. It has a bigger screen, a much more powerful chipset, and comes with Android 13. It comes in two versions, one with the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 and another with a confusingly equally powerful MediaTek Dimensity 1100.
Performance will vary depending on the game, so make your choice wisely... Although performance for most games below PS2 should be equivalent between these two Pocket Flip 2 models.
Regardless of the variant you choose, the Pocket Flip 2 is a great device for gaming on the go. You guessed it, we're fans of Retroid, too!
The world is a bit chaotic right now, but Anbernic broke its 2025 silence by announcing a new device, the RG-557: the successor to their premium Android console, the now 1 year old Anbernic RG-556:
Ever since the Ayaneo Pocket Micro Classic came out, it has been... "Quiet... Too quiet" to quote Peppy from Star Fox (or Lylat Wars for Europeans, those funny chaps...). Anbernic's latest device is still the RG-34XX, which is here because it's Handheldsarena's all-time favorite device so far! Yes, you read it right! You just can't go wrong with this superb device:
Until that horizontal chunk of goodness comes out, there are loads of promotions right now for existing devices! Check out out our Anbernic catalog to view these (available from the Anbernic store) and also other popular devices on the Aliexpress stores like the excellent Miyoo A30.
Or even the other excellent device from Miyoo, the Miyoo Mini Plus!
Finally, we also ask you to consider the super solid Trimui Brick, which is currently heavily discounted in Aliexpress.
So there you have it, our top recommendations for the best Easter gifts to buy right now. We hope you find something you like.
Happy gaming!

Remember that super interesting and somewhat familiar liminal space between a portable computer, a tablet, and a console with detachable... things? Yeah, this is another weird one, it's the OneXplayer G1 featuring a detachable qwerty keyboard that seems to be just out of this world :)
Right on the heels of the recently released OneXplayer X1 Pro, this is yet another AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 APU: super powerful, high-end 32GB RAM, Windows 11, perfect for emulating everything you end up throwing at it.
So basically, it's a netbook? A laptop? A mini laptop? You decide :) It has a d-pad, so it's clearly a handheld: we don't discriminate here at Handheldsarena.
Check out this comparison to check out this unique device's equally unique competitors, specifically from GPD with their Win Minis and Maxes.

We have just updated Handheldsarena with a boatload of low profile as cheap as you can get handheld devices from... somewhere.
We suspect it could be China... What do you think? :)
We love China, btw :)
But don't expect much from these brands, we'd say...
Sometimes we think we've got this handheld thing nailed down and under control, but then there's one new brand with an exquisite device... The handheld market is indeed booming!
But sometimes the best handheld console is the one you have with you to play with, so if you're just looking for entries in the sub-50 dollar range, we've got you covered.
It's still the beggining of March 2025 but we have already added five new brands: BATLEXP, QRD, Curious Chip, Dealbay, and Raypodo. Of all these, there is one who does not belong to the group, and that is Curious Chip, who is not a cheap Chinese brand and is more a DYI manufacturer who likes Raspberry pis :)
Anyway, DIY, on the cheap, high end, or somewhere in between, you always have a choice, and we're here to help! Happy gaming!

Checkout this comparison with the closest matches.
This is MagicX's 3rd device overall, with the MagicX XU Mini M from July 2024 and the MagicX XU10 from November 2023 as predecessors. We believe this is MagicX's best device yet; be sure to check it out!

Continuing with our 2025 catch-up of new releases here on Handheldsarena, we're highlighting a fantastic device that came out in January: the Odin 2 Portal. It's essentially a small but important iteration over its already very capable sibling: the Odin 2, but now sporting a bigger and much better screen with 7 inches AMOLED compared to the Odin 2's 6-inch IPS. Besides a few ergonomics changes, it's internally the same Android 13 device, using Qualcomm's snapdragon 8 gen 2 with a Qualcomm Adreno 740 as GPU.
If you feel lost, AYN is a relatively new handheld brand, having released its first device, the Odin (1), in 2022 with a steady 6-month cadence of new devices (check their catalog here). Do not confuse AYN with Ayaneo; they're totally different handheld brands with different competing devices. If there are two brands that release often, it's Anbernic and Powkiddy. Last month, Powkiddy released their first 2025 device: the X35H, which is, basically, a smaller version of their X55 device from May 2023. It's also their 35th device overall!
The space where this device competes is already super crowded: 3.5-inch screen, RK3566 chip, emulating N64 or NDS at best, horizontal and vertical variants... Yawn... There are lots of clones and variants with this exact setup from multiple brands, and there's not really much else to say about this device; it's a... cheap utilitarian from Powkiddy.
But, as with every handheld purchase, please spend a bit of time considering alternative devices that may be better choices. Check out this comparison which pits Powkiddy X35H against very good alternatives for the same price, specifically from Anbernic and Powkiddy itself.
Anyway, feel free to check out the entire Powkiddy catalog on our Powkiddy brand page. Happy gaming!

Still remember CES 2025? It seems like it happened forever ago in a lost continent... Politics aslide, CES 2025 featured another powerful GPD device update: the GPD Win 4 2025 revision. There aren't many sliding handhelds out there besides the Ayaneo Slide and obviously the GPD models from previous years. Oh and the PSP GO! lol Remember when Sony made decent handhelds? Yeah :'(
Unlike the mini laptop / net book device we mentioned before, the GPD Win 4 2025 is clearly a handheld, but with a sliding full qwerty keyboard. However, much like the GPD Win Max 2 from 2025, it has the AMD RYZEN AI 9 HX370, although a variant with the AMD RYZEN 7 8840U is also available.
The base config includes 32 GB of RAM and 1TB NVME storage. This device is slightly heavier than its predecessor, in fact, 32 grams more, but considering how light you'll feel after spending what this device costs, we're confident you won't even notice the difference. Anyway, if you like a full qwerty keyboard in a sliding form factor, the choice boils down to this GPD or Ayaneo comparison.

Woah, what's up? A news item from us? Yeah... We've been adding devices to our catalog without the accompanying announcement news posts. But that has now changed because we have improved our news section, and it's like, totally more easier and goodder and better to manage, unlike our questionable grammar skills :)
Anyway, back to today's device, it was actually presented at CES 2025 in January, where GPD showed their latest devices, which are mostly, if not exclusively, 2025 versions of their flagships. So yeah, the GPD Win Max 2 2025 is more of a tiny laptop than a handheld, but it has a D-Pad, so that makes it automatically a console, right?
GPD kept most of the same features but changed a few internals, specifically, the SoC, which is now one of those crazy AI chips from AMD, the AMD RYZEN AI 9 HX370, which means AMD Zen 5 + AMD Radeon 890M. Also, 64 GB of RAM, and 1TB of nvme storage should be enough to store some Atari roms, am I right? Jk, this device is super powerful and it is capable of running pretty much everything.
Have a look at this comparison page showing the evolution of the Win Max 2 series since 2022, and decide if you're ready to buy this year's flagship or look for a discounted version from the previous years. This is a Windows 11 device that is very hard to (lap)top! (see what we did there?)
Have fun comparing!

Guess who finally released their flip portable device just in time for the new year? Miyoo! This device has been teased a few months ago, but never got released until now: it suddenly appeared on Amazon in the last days of 2024.
The new Miyoo Flip is kind of a niche device for those who live by the clamshell form factor, and it's Miyoo's first attempt at it. It's a 3.5-inch device with a 640x480 resolution, powered by the Rockchip RK3566 SoC, with 1GB of RAM, 128GB of storage and dual SD card slots.
We believe it is competing directly with Anbernic's RG-35XX SP and may even steal some attention from Retroid's Pocket Flip. In the big leagues, there are already the two quite capable Windows clamshells from Ayaneo: the Flip DS with a dual screen device and the Flip KB with a full querty keyboard and a single screen. In the... hum... "other" leagues, there's the Powkiddy V90 which emulates a very limited number of consoles, and the Powkiddy X18, much more capable, but even older.
Regardless of how your preferences flip, we're here to show you all these specs and devices and how they compare to each other, so check out the Miyoo Flip specs and a comparison page with all the devices mentioned.
We're huge fans of Anbernic here at Handheldsarena, and we're excited to announce that the RG-34XX is now available. This is a device that is as much unique as it is familiar. Its screen is indeed unique: a 3.4-inch, 3:2 screen with a 720x480 resolution. Yes, that's 3x the original GBA resolution for impeccable, crisp, and sharp scaling. As for the familiar stuff, there's its shell, which is basically a GBA with 2 extra front buttons and 2 extra shoulder buttons, and there's also its chipset: the H700, which is a component Anbernic is apparently VERY fixated on using :)
This is clearly a device for GBA nostalgic fans, although the device handles everything up to PS1 very well. It has no analog sticks, but we think this is a good balance for the devices it emulates: sometimes less is really more! If you're looking for the best GBA emulation experience, there's really not much else you can have: there's the much more expensive Ayaneo Pocket Micro, the slightly more expensive RGB10S from Powkiddy and the competitively priced Miyoo Pocket Go S30. These alternatives from Powkiddy and Miyoo are also great devices for GBA, but they have a slightly inferior screen with only 2x the GBA resolution... And they don't have that lovely nostalgic GBA shell which Anbernic got absolutely right with this device.
Check out the Anbernic RG-34XX page and specs and a comparison page with all the devices mentioned above.

We can't believe this, but there's not one, not two, but three new handhelds that were made available in the last days of November. These are two devices from Ayaneo: the Pocket Evo and the Pocket DMG and one from One Netbook: the OneXFly F1 Pro.
We think the truly unique device of the bunch is the Ayaneo Pocket DMG, with its classic DMG look but featuring a touch panel at the bottom. The other two devices are newer iterations of already existing devices from the same brands, but with more recent chipsets, with the OneXFly F1 Pro sporting an impressive AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX370: this absolute beast plays everything. Take a look at the One Netbook and Ayaneo brand pages and you'll see what we mean.
We've already added the specs for these devices, so you can check them out on their respective pages. We've also built a comparison page for you to check out the specs and compare them with each other or as a starting point for any other device you wish to add. Enjoy!

Anbernic has released a new device, the RG-406H, its (checks notes) 11th device of the year! But worry not! We do see some logic in these RG-40 family releases: Anbernic is trying to cater to every taste, so this latest device is a consolidation of the vertical and horizontal form factors and their two processor capability tiers based on two socs: the powerful UNISOC Tiger T820 and the cheaper Allwinner H700.
The Anbernic RG-406H is a 4-inch landscape device running Android 13, with 8GB of RAM and a 960x720 4:3 IPS screen. This device uses the UNISOC Tiger T820 SoC, just like its vertical counterpart, and it runs exactly the same software and the same screen. It is a bit lighter and has a slightly less powerful battery, but is otherwise a landscape version of the Anbernic RG-406V.
Be sure to check out our specifications page for the Anbernic RG-406H. We've also built a comparison page for you to check out the specs and compare them with the somewhat confusing assortment of similar Anbernic releases.

Trimui is becoming a prominent household name in the handheld gaming world, with a somewhat slow cadence of device releases, at least when compared to other, more popular brands :) The Smart Brick is the latest in the line of handhelds from this brand, and it's already on sale.
This device is a 3.2-inch portrait original game boy style device, although a lot sexier, with some design cues clearly taken from the Analogue brand. It's powered by the Allwinner A133 plus SoC, with 1GB of RAM and a 1024x768 IPS screen. The device comes preinstalled with Tina Linux, and it's capable of running a modest range of emulators and games, which kind of matches its price point.
Be sure to check out our specifications page for the Trimui Smart Brick. We're excited to announce that the Retroid Pocket 5 (and its specs) is available at Handheldsarena! The device is expected to start shipping in the next few weeks but has been available for pre-order since September.
The Retroid Pocket 5 is a 5.5-inch Android 13 device (which can also run using Batocera) and is powered by the usual combo of an ARM Cortex-A77 + an ARM Cortex-A55, clocked from 1.8 GHz up to 2.64 GHz. With 8 GB of RAM and 1080p AMOLED screen, lit by a Qualcomm Adreno 650 GPU clocked at 587MHz, this is a powerful modern device, with early reviews showing it runs near perfect PS2 emulation and, of course, everything else below that.
Be sure to check out our specifications page for the Retroid Pocket 5. Welcome to Handheldsarena.com, a new site that covers handheld gaming device specifications, comparisons and news.
After months of tireless work collecting and filtering information from multiple sources, rearranging images, polishing comparisons and solving all the technical challenges that go with putting a site up in 2024, we reached a major milestone on a fright night like no other: Handheldsarena is finally live! It's the right time to scream!
The portable handheld market has been booming thanks to the availability of excellent off-the-shelf hardware components and the generously mature ecosystem of open source operating systems and gaming software. Just this month, five new devices were released: from big bulky Windows or Steam OS pc like devices, to the more exquisite products from Asian brands, or even independent or community funded projects, and all the devices in between, the choices are more varied than ever. But don't stress, we're here to help!
Our mission is to become your go-to resource for comparing and displaying specifications of all handheld consoles, new and old. Our passion for older consoles, portable gaming devices and embedded Linux systems in general, is what drives this project: we believe that every gamer and handheld enthusiast should have access to reliable, up-to-date information on the available devices and also be able to compare all their specs.
We hope you enjoy the site and find what you're looking for! You can also subscribe to Handheldsarena via RSS and be notified when new devices are added.
Ps: Happy Halloween!
